Pour la réouverture de la galerie de calligraphie du Musée National de Corée, j'ai cherché à m'approprier l'état d'esprit du calligraphe à travers le concept de souffle, la vie insufflée à travers un pinceau et figée en une trace. En m'appuyant sur les éléments bruts qui fondent cet art (pierre, eau, encre, pinceau) et en échangeant avec des calligraphes rencontrés en Chine, France et Corée, j'ai voulu capter le souffle des artisans, des matières et de la nature. Un moment de tournage a cristallisé ma démarche : la suie récoltée dans le four d'un fabricant d'encre, tamisée sur du papier coréen, dessinait spontanément des paysages. Comme la calligraphie elle-même, qui matérialise d'un souffle des mondes abstraits. Pour ce projet, je me suis entouré du duo Wolfs+Jung pour l'expérimentation plastique et de Tony Hayère pour la création sonore.
For the reopening of the calligraphy gallery at the National Museum of Korea, I sought to inhabit the state of mind of the calligrapher through the concept of breath — life breathed through a brush and fixed into a trace. Drawing on the raw elements at the heart of this art (stone, water, ink, brush) and through exchanges with calligraphers I have met in China, France and Korea, I wanted to capture the breath of the craftsmen, the materials and the natural world. One moment during filming crystallised my approach: soot collected from the kiln of an ink stone maker, sifted onto a sheet of Korean paper, spontaneously drew landscapes. Much like calligraphy itself, which conjures abstract worlds from a single breath. For this project, I worked alongside the duo Wolfs+Jung for the material experimentation, and Tony Hayère for the sound composition.
