Le film auquel je suis le plus attaché. Ma vraie histoire : je suis tombé éperdument amoureux de Hong Kong. Passion, sexe, alcool, nuits blanches, clubs, chaleur étouffante. Premiers amours, premières passions — souvenirs du lycée, musique à tue-tête, premières cuites. Cette ville me met à fleur de peau.
J'ai voulu faire un poème érotique, un hymne à la ville. Explorer Hong Kong comme on explore un corps et son odeur : jungle de flore et béton, parfum enivrant et puant, le port parfumé. J'y ai senti les plus fortes solitudes et les plus torrides étreintes. Tout est décuplé dans les sens. Je l'ai arpentée à pied, bus, taxi, bateau, tant d'années.
Elle m'a beaucoup pris comme une mauvaise maîtresse sans me garder — ils m'ont refusé la résidence permanente alors que j'étais le seul de ma famille à vouloir y habiter. Comme un amant éconduit je suis parti, sans jamais effacer son souvenir ni la nostalgie de ces moments brûlants passés en son sein.
The film I'm most attached to. My true story: I fell madly in love with Hong Kong. Passion, sex, alcohol, sleepless nights, clubs, suffocating heat. First loves, first passions — high school memories, music blasting, first hangovers. This city strips me raw.
I wanted to make an erotic poem, a hymn to the city. Exploring Hong Kong like exploring a body and its scent: jungle of flora and concrete, intoxicating and stinking perfume, the fragrant harbor. I felt the strongest solitudes and the most torrid embraces there. Everything amplified in the senses. I walked it by foot, bus, taxi, boat, for so many years.
It took so much from me like a bad mistress without keeping me — they refused me permanent residence while I was the only one in my family who wanted to live there. Like a spurned lover I left, never able to erase its memory or the nostalgia of those burning moments in its embrace.
